Vote for Zoey and support Morristown cat rescue mission

In 2002, Katharine Payne started rescuing kittens in the Morristown area and has grown her mission into a successful rescue-to-adopt business called Smitten by Kittens. With the help of volunteers (like my sister Caitlin and her friend Missy), Katharine is able to find safe and happy homes for kittens and adult cats.

Now Katharine needs our help. She has entered one of her beloved cats Zoey into a contest by Bissell called MVP: Most Valuable Pet Photo Contest. The grand prize includes $10,000 which Katharine will use towards her non-profit business which is funded by donations and sponsorships.

To support Zoey and Katharine, simply visit the Bissell site. You can also grab a button like the ones I've posted below and post to your own site in support of Smitten by Kittens. Think of the millions of kittens that can be saved through the efforts of organizations like Katharine's. Vote now and pay it forward!

Mrs Mo's Pretty Picks: Mercer Chamber Bridal Expo

This Sunday was the annual Mercer Regional Chamber Bridal Expo & Showcase at Rider University. Potential brides packed the Cavalla Room to get first dibs on free food, discount coupons and brochure materials on potential wedding vendors. Doing double duty as a volunteer for the Chamber and journalist for my site, I roamed the aisles picking out my favorites from flowers to food. (at left: That's our guy Expo Joe. He was also celebrating his 40th wedding anniversary. He's the man behind the Chamber expos and fairs)

Edible Euphoria: Whole Foods Pastries

How is it possible to walk by a counter like the Whole Foods Bakery counter and not salivate?

Rob and I went for a healthy dinner tonight at the Whole Foods in Princeton(That's like fine dining for us now) and he just had get a dessert. What does he care: he's 6'2" and about 160 lbs soaking wet. My will power was my cell phone. Instead of eating, I decided to take pictures and dream. Another plus: the cupcakes contained tree nuts of which I am slightly allergic. Oh well!

Rob's purchase: A Raspberry Mousse Meringue. Light(in taste and consistency) and fresh raspberry mousse in a white meringue base sprinkled with hardened sugar crystals. Topped with 4 enormous raspberries. Not so sweet that your teeth rotted but a perfect balance for me, the sweetness maven, and Rob, Mr. plain-is-good-for-me. It was a perfect way to cleanse your palate after a winter meal. Divine!

Some other items to tickle your fancy or indulge your sweet tooth include: chocolate "cappuccino cups", decadent eclairs and gourmet cakes and cupcakes.

Mrs Mo's RePost: Be your child's valentine

Valentine's Day was always a fun day in my family. Every year, my mother surprised us with a little gift. I always loved them, especially since I never had my own special valentine until maybe college.

One year, she gave us heart shaped jelly bracelets and another we got valentine boxer shorts. It was a small way to show her love and it's something that all moms can do for their children.

This year, be your child's valentine!

Here are some cute gifts ideas:

Mrs Mo's RePost: Last minute gifts for your honey

It's Valentine's Day!

Did you get your sweetie something yet? If you're still scrambling to get that perfect gift, you are definitely not alone. But instead of stressing over creative ideas, check out some of the last minute ideas that you can do ranging from $ to $:

$$$
If you typically spend a lot, use your money to buy cheap airfare for a weekend away (especially with the President's weekend). Get started here by searching on any of your favorite cheap ticket sites.

$-$$
1. Give her/him a nice picture frame of the both of you. Maybe a wedding photo? A special dinner you had? My husband has been asking me for a picture to put on his desk so now would be a perfect time for me to give him something like that (*hint hint*).

2. If you like to cook (or even if you don't), plan a homemade dinner for two. Pick his/her or your favorite meal, light some candles, put on romantic music, dim the lights and there you go! Throw in some flowers or wine/champagne if you want. And for dessert? Chocolate covered strawberries? Heart shaped cookies? The supermarket or a bakery is the best place to stop. If you don't like to cook, get take out from your favorite restaurant or supermarket (Wegman's always has great premade food).

3. If your honey has a green thumb, give him/her a plantable card. I know it's too late to purchase them online, but check your local florist or garden center to see if they carry them.

4. If your honey is a coffee drinker, get a blank travel coffee mug (I did that one year with a mug I found at Starbuck's), and insert your card or letter in the mug. That way, every time they go to take a sip, your words will warm their heart (like the pun?). Here is one that can be found in Walmart.

zip-$
If you're really creative, design a scavenger hunt around your house. The end result can be any of the presents above, but the actual hunt part of it is very cheap to do and your sweetie will have fun with the suspense.

Whatever you choose to do this day, make sure you tell your Valentine, whether it's your mom, best friend, husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, or pet that you love them and are thankful for them. That's the best gift of all.

Love your heart: National Wear Red Day

Do you love your heart? Are you committed to living a healthy lifestyle for you and your children?

Today is National Wear Red Day for the American Heart Association. Support their ongoing research to help fight this #1 killer of women. It starts simple with wearing red: a pin, a sweater, your shoes, earrings, etc. You can spread the word by passing along this info to others and join the Go Red campaign. At the Go Red for Women site, you can learn about the risk factors that you can control, donate to research, join the 12-week fitness plan or just shop your red gear for next year!

Show others your pledge to be more healthy by downloading a Heart Truth Healthy Action pledge widget for your blog or Facebook account. I made my pledge to "reach a healthy weight in 2009" and I'm almost there!

A beautiful snowy day

One of my favorite things to do about once or twice a season is take pictures from my car of the beautiful way Princeton looks whether it's covered in snow, glowing from fall leaves or green with summer.

Yesterday NJ had one of the most beautiful snow falls that I can remember. When the snow doesn't stick to the road, it's a beautiful thing! But honestly, I was in awe at the beauty that surrounded me and couldn't wait to capture the images from my car.

This morning, Maddy and I went to look at a townhome in Montgomery. I took the scenic route and was glad I did. The tree-lined roads glistened in a Narnia-like way. On my return trip, I drove down Nassau St. and Alexander St. to capture the Princeton architecture with the snowy decor.
