One of my fav bands is back with their upcoming album Perfect Symmetry available on October 14th. Listen to their single, Spiralling below (I get a very retro vibe from it...sounds like there's a little bit of Human League Fascination in the background):
Keane is back!
It's not easy being green....tea

I am the first to admit when I have an unhealthy addiction to certain food products. But I'm going to fix that problem this week!
For a few weeks now, I have been upsetting my stomach with twice daily consumption of Vanilla Coke Zero. When popping open a can of soda is easier than brewing coffee (that usually makes me way too wired anyway), a bad habit is bound to develop.
I have decided that this week would be the last of my daily soda consumption. I am going to make it a goal to drink Green Tea everyday. I recently purchased Bigelow Pomegranate Green Tea and it has been sitting in my kitchen cabinet unused. But I'm done with unnecessary carbonation (for now) and will opt for artificially sweetened Green Tea!
Wish me luck!

Reunited and it feels so good!
***I realize that I'm a few months late in this, but better late than never!***
When I first moved to the Princeton area, I was upset to discover that my beloved Z100 didn't come in clearly. I had been a loyal Elvis Duran and John Bell listener since middle school in the early 90s. I accepted the reality that my only option was 94.5 WPST (formerly 97.5) which I have since grown to really enjoy.
You could imagine my total surprise when one day while driving down Route 1 and scanning the stations, that I heard a familiar voice on Q102. Elvis Duran? On a Philly station? Did he leave New York? He definitely could not be fired!?? What's going on?? Is that John Bell's voice? Wait, Greg T is there too? And Carolina? What's going on???
Here's the 411: The Elvis Duran morning show is broadcasting simultaneously (with a few second delay) on both WHTZ100.3 and Q102.1. According to Philly.com, Booker, Angie and Blair got the boot over a programming issue and Diego stayed on in an unknown capacity. He is featured regularly on the show from the Philly location. Thank you Q102 for reuniting me with my trusty morning show. It's about time that listeners from Central to Southern Jersey are treated to such a hilarious crew!

Long Beach Island Website
The one thing I always wish I had was an all access website dedicated to LBI with info about restaurants, hotels, shopping, etc.
It turns out that there is!
Long Beach Island Summers is run by Deb who also has a site called Surviving NJ and who has made a nice career of writing about New Jersey. Her site is a result of extensive research of the area. On her hotels link, you don't just get phone numbers and addresses from her; you get a brief description and photo. She also has tips and real estate referrals for people looking to rent on the island. If you're looking for things to do, take her advice! Since she considers LBI like a 2nd home, you can rest assured that she knows what to hit and what to skip. She even has tips on having a beach wedding with links to apparel, invitations, flowers and churches. I could go on, but I think you get the idea of how much information is available at your fingertips. And it is an easy site to navigate which is key!
So, if you're heading down to LBI next weekend for ChowderFest, peruse Long Beach Island Summers and come prepared to have fun! I'll be there!
Team Leanne!
I'm not a Project Runway regular, but this season seems to have some real serious talent that is actually wearable in real life.
Two of my faves are Korto and Leanne, but I'm putting my money on Leanne for the big prize. Her Fashion Week collection is not only "Pret-a-Porter", but it looks like a breezy day at the beach: wind in your hair, soft sand seeping through your toes and the blue hues of the ocean.

Computer training for Preschoolers
Moms, now that the school year has begun, get your child signed up for the Computer Tots program. Classes are available all over the state.
You may be thinking: computer classes for 3 and 4 year olds? It's possible and it works. I taught classes before I had Maddy and witnessed the development of the fine motor skills necessary for manipulating a computer mouse. My kids learned computer terms like icon, desktop and USB port. It's a great program.

A house for Rob and Hilary
After months and months of house hunting, open house visiting and Maddy toting, Rob and I finally have a contract on a house! We had been looking in Pennington, Hopewell and Lawrenceville, but never considered my old stomping ground: Montgomery ( I taught here for 2 years and wouldn't have met Rob had it not been for 2 of my colleagues). And we were fortunate enough to have an understanding and very very patient realtor, Ray Disch of Disch Real Estate.
We met Ray at an open house in Hopewell and thought he was different from other realtors. Very personable and easy to talk candidly to. He's a guy's guy. He knows the Princeton area well and understands the needs of his clients. He has lived in the Hopewell area for 20+ years, is a lacrosse dad and was even one of the founders of Triumph Brewing Company in Princeton!
Ray also stands out with his unique branding, using unexpected colors (black and red which yellow text) and has a great location next to the Lotus dealership in Hopewell.
If you're looking to move to the Hopewell/Pennington/Princeton area and do not have a realtor to work with, give Ray a call. Or take a drive through Hopewell Boro and stop on in. (Tell him I sent you!)

Mrs Mo's Pretty Picks
You can never have too many handbags, especially when there are so many outfit coordinating opportunities (kind of like ties for guys).
Check out some of these gorgeous and very expensive LOOKING bags available from Big Buddha. A bag line that was started by a college guy in his dorm room, Big Buddha bags come in a variety of colors and can easily be mistaken for a celebrity designer knockoff.
I have nominated 2 bags for my Pretty Pick and trust me you'll understand why...
1. The Denise Bag ($36 wholesale, $60-$90 Retail): I spotted this bag at my favorite boutique, Charmed By Claire and immediately put it on my wish-list. Don't let the purple scare you. As Stacy and Clinton would tell you, your purse does NOT have to match your shoes. They would probably pair this bag with yellow shoes or maybe even red. Your options are endless now. Available in: Black, Blue, Brown, Cream, Green, Orange, Purple, Red and Tan.
2. The Harvard Bag ($34 Wholesale, $60-$90 Retail): This bag is the perfect blend of preppy and uptown sophisticate. Great for day trips or carting around campus. Nothing I've seen before. Available in: Burgundy, Black and Navy.

Bring the Chalkboard to your Home
I have loved chalkboard paint ever since seeing it on an episode of Trading Spaces. In my old condo, I applied in my kitchen to use as a memo board. And I definitely want to use it when Maddy (and any future children) get older so they can draw, write or whatever in their room. However, if you don't want the permanence of chalkboard paint, another option is a chalkboard wall decal!
At WallCandyArt.com, you can browse a collection of hip, royal, playful or colorful wall decals including chalkboards.

Weight Watchers Challenge: The Weigh In
Speaking of the gym, one of the benefits of Weight Watchers is that you don't have to kill yourself at the gym. Since you're eating based on your lifestyle (since I'm a stay-at-home mom now I don't move around that much and that is factored into your daily points), you get a daily calorie amount that is neither too little nor too high. I used to bust my butt-trying to get 2 workouts in a day, but then I wouldn't compensate with the right calorie amount. Now, if I don't feel like working out, I won't. Or, If I'm not int he mood to hit the gym I'll do a 20 minute cardio video on Exercise TV through On Demand. There are a lot of fun dance workouts that are about 15 minutes, but definitely break a sweat. I've also been trying to do yoga as my strength training. I did a video of Yoga Fusion Fitness and the next day, I was so sore. My obliques felt really tight and they NEVER do!
I suppose I would lose more weight each week if I ramped up my activity, but I'm happier to not feel the pressure. They do say 1 lb a week is about average anyway!
Here are some of the videos I've been enjoying lately:
90210 (2) vs the Original

I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a Gossip Girl fan. I love the stories, the fashion and the Blair/Chuck drama. Since getting hooked on one teen show (if you could call it that), I decided to give the new 90210 a chance too. I can't say that I'm loving it, but I think it would be hard for anyone of my generation to take to the remake of a show that was in a word-groundbreaking. There's nothing like the original. So far, with 4 episodes in, here are my gripes with 90210(2):
- I'm so done with Annie. She's just annoying.
- I do like Silver and Dixon, but that's about it.
- Kelly and Brenda anchor the show and without them, it would not be as entertaining.
- The story lines aren't unique enough (yet) to rival GG .
- The whole time I'm watching this show, I can't help to wonder what the old 'gang' is up to-Are Steve and Janet still married? Where is Dylan? Is Tori successful? What ever happened between Andrea and Jesse after she cheated?
PS. Does anyone else see a little bit of Val Tyler in Kelly Taylor? Just sayin...

Oh my gosh, where did you get those earrings?

I can't tell you how many websites I searched when I was looking for the perfect earrings for my wedding. I was looking for an elegant and somewhat retro look that were also priced right.
Well, 2 years later, I have found a pair that I totally would have worn!
These Sterling Silver Earrings with Teardrop Pearls are only one of the many beautiful designs by the Dallas based company, Samantha Rose. Priced well at $39.95, they would have looked great with my chignon hair and bare neck.
Even better is the 10% discount Samantha Rose is offering on any of the products in their collection. Just type LAUNCH at checkout. The promo ends March 13, 2009 just in time for Spring weddings! But why wait!
House Hunt Across New Jersey
I've been a frequent browser of Realtor.com ever since Rob and I got serious about our house hunt. And while we're getting THAT MUCH closer to THE house, I'm still out there looking for new listings. Curiosity reigned last night when I really should have been going to bed as I decided to scope out the type of house we could get within the same price range, but all over New Jersey. In a way, it's just unfair how much house you can get in some towns while others have nothing available! Take a look:
Criteria: $400,000$450,000, Central Air, Gas Heat, 3+ Beds
1. Alpine (one of the wealthiest towns in the country): Nothing available
2. Mount Olive Twp: 3 bedroom, 2.5 baths, $419,900
4. Chester Boro: 4 bedroom, 2.5 baths, $429,000
5. Morristown: 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, $439,000, townhome
6. Bernardsville: Nothing available
7. Northvale: 4 bedroom, 2 bath, $429,000
8. Hillsborough: 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, $409,000
9. Lambertville: 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, townhome, $419,900, 860 sq ft.
10. Princeton: 3 bedroom, 1 bath, $409,900, 1310 sq ft.
11. Bordentown: 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath, $425,000
12. Spring Lake: Nothing
13. Point Pleasant: 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath, $419,900, 1660 sq ft.
14. Voorhees: 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath, $449,900, 3,000 sq ft.
15. Atlantic City: 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, townhome, $444,907, 1800 sq ft.
A common theme with houses that seem great and are in our range is that they have Oil heat which is just too expensive and too risky for us. We're getting there though!
Rob and I recently took a 4-day vacation at his parent's beach house at LBI and can I tell you how nice it was being down there in September rather than during the summer....I will!
- The weather is just as nice or even better than during the summer. Even though Tropical Storm Hanna was coming up the coast, we had 3 hot and sunny days.
- The masses of teenagers and college students disappear since school is back in session.
- The stores and restaurants are still open for another month and you can actually get a table in less than an hour!

- You don't have to share the bike lane with like every third person in town.
- The bay is quiet & calm so if you like to kayak or go boating, it's like you have a private body of water at your disposal.
- In early Sept., people still go on vacation so it's not a complete ghost town.
- End of Summer Sales!!!
- Beaches are quieter and cleaner.
- The parkway and turnpike are slightly easier to travel/less rubbernecking.
- I don't know about other shore towns, but the speed limit on Long Beach Blvd goes UP!

September 11th 2001: Memories
On the morning of September 11th, 2001, I was living at home in Morristown, getting ready to go to The Office Bar & Grill for my lunch waitressing shift.
I think my mother called to tell me that a plane just hit the first tower. We didn't know if it was an accident or deliberate at the time.
I turned on the TV and watched, mouth gaped, as a 2nd plane hit the 2nd tower and knew this was no accident.
As I drove to work, Morristown seemed eerily quiet. I looked at the sky and noticed no clouds. It was a beautiful day.
The Office was quiet except for the news broadcasts over the TVs. Professionals from around The Green filled in as they had been just let out of work for the day. We all just stood or sat and watched the coverage, not knowing what would happen next.
I spoke to my mom who works at Morristown-Beard and said there were kids being sent home who's parents either worked in the city or in the towers.
Later I called a friend who was is the Pittsburgh area after hearing of the crash of Flight 93 nearby.
I never knew anyone who died that day nor did I know someone who lost a loved one until I got my first job teaching up in Glen Rock, a town in Bergen County which lost the most NJ residents in the tower attacks. They lost 13 friends. The art teacher lost her brother.
My husband works in the same town where Todd Beamer lived. The post office was the site of a memorial and dons a plaque in his honor.
When I started teaching at Mobeard, I had a student who shared the name of the father he lost. So much pain for kids to deal with. It never goes away.
I remember when officials confiscated a mailbox in Princeton during the Anthrax attacks which happened in nearby Hamilton.
It's almost impossible to live in New Jersey a not have a story to share about 9-11-01.
Never Forget.
A new Hugh crush
I just saw The Jane Austen Book Club and have a new crush on Hugh Dancy, the lone man among women in the club.
Dancy, who is currently dating Claire Danes, has starred in Evening, Ella Enchanted & Black Hawk Down, and can be seen in the upcoming Confessions of a Shopaholic with Isla Fisher.
But he's adorable in "Book Club." Check him out!

Be Quiet and Let Me Decide Please!
I will admit that this is the first presidential election that I actually care about. In the past, I didn't really research both parties to understand the issues. It's almost embarrassing, but I just assumed that I was Republican since I grew up in a Republican household and married a die-hard Republican. But I'm getting serious now and actually trying to make the best decision, the most educated vote for president regardless of party.
With that said, it is not helping that all I see are gossip and speculation on the pasts of the candidates. I guess since Obama had the spotlight on his relationships for the duration of his convention, it was time to focus on someone else. The fascination/obsession with Sarah Palin's past has just gone a little overboard at this point. But it's still not helping. All of this gossip is helping to sway the most impressionable voters like college aged and young adults. People who may be choosing a president based on popularity with celebrities rather than basing a decision on how the ideas will affect them. It definitely does very little if nothing to affect the 40+ age brackets.
At this time, I'm still undecided on my vote. I relate with both parties and have even gone as far as to take online quizzes to really see my party affiliation by the numbers. It turns out that I'm a fiscal conservative and a social liberal. Doesn't help to make my decision any easier.
So, I'm just simply asking, more like commanding, for the gossip to chill out! (You still have my love, but I just need a temporary separation)
Mrs Mo's Review: Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas by James Patterson
Getting back to the story itself:
Katie is a woman who has just been dumped by Matt, or so it seems to her. The love of her life up and left without any reason except that he wasn't ready. Then, one day in the midst of her own period of mourning, she receives a package from Matt with a diary enclosed. A diary, written by Suzanne for Nicholas, both of which are or were Matt's wife and child. As Katie's reads the diary, she meets Suzanne and gets to like her. She wonders if Matt cheated on her, left her, if she left him, if she died, and so on. She reads about Suzanne and Matt's courtship, marriage and birth of their child Nicholas.
Without divulging details of the story, I will only say that Katie discovers something about herself that links her to Suzanne indefinitely and from Suzanne she learns some valuable life lessons. And instead of being mad at Matt, you hurt, no you ACHE for him and want him to be happy.
By the end of the book, I was sobbing uncontrollably. Probably more than I did at the end of the Notebook movie. There I was, sitting on the front deck of my in-law's beach house with Maddy just inside the door, sleeping in her playpen with tears welling up behind my sunglasses. I was sniffling, trying not to be too loud for Rob to wonder what was wrong. But when I closed the book and came inside, the tears flowed and I gave Rob a big hug as he comforted me. Then, I bent over and picked up my smiling baby girl and gave her a big hug as well.
So, I guess this is both a warning and an encouragement to moms to read this book. As you approach the end, gather up some tissues. If you're child is at home with you, give him/her a hug and kiss and even if they squirm because mom is being weird and mushy. Oh well too bad!
If you want to read and discuss this book with other James Patterson fans, join the JP community at http://jamespatterson.ning.com/.
I also just found that this was made into a Lifetime movie starring Christina Applegate and her ex-husband Johnathon Schaech.
Yummy, Healthy Snack: Pastry Crisps
Glenny's, the maker of Soy Crisps, has a Multigrain Cinnamon/Sugar chip called Pastry Crisps. Don't expect the buttery, stick to your fingers goodness of the real deal, but these are a nice alternative. Light and crispy with a light sugary seasoning. And what's better is that they are only 2pts on Weight Watchers!
I found them at Murphy's Market in Beach Haven, but I'm sure they're around. Just look for them where you see Soy Crisps!
